Term Life Insurance – Not an unregulated industry

Life insurance is almost a basic need. It’s the first step in Personal Financial Planning. It fulfills different purposes for different people and can provide valuable benefits if you make your choices carefully.
Like many think mistakenly, it is not just for financial protection in the event of untimely death of a family breadwinner. Term Life Insurance can also be a comprehensive wealth accumulation solution that benefits almost all. Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, employed or a business person - you can get a plan tailor made for you.

To ensure that this objective is met in totality, IRDA has set up various checks and balances.  In case of any claim dispute, you/ the nominee can approach the Insurance Ombudsman which is a non-judicial authority formed. The Insurance Ombudsman has been empowered to redress claim disputes up to INR 20 lakh within a limited timeframe. With 12 centers spread across the country, your insurer must update you (through the policy document) about the Insurance Ombudsman in whose jurisdiction its office falls for the purpose of grievance redressal. The decision passed by the Ombudsman is binding on the insurer, though not on you/ nominee. In case you are still dissatisfied, you/nominee can approach the judiciary or the Consumer Forum as well.

Life Insurance company works for Customer satisfaction

Also, let’s not forget that the cost of acquiring a new customer is usually very high. It is thus critical for any business to retain its existing customers. Moreover, various regulations and law amendments have further empowered the customers, who now enjoy greater choice and flexibility. For example, the introduction of service portability across mobile networks life insurance and health insurance portability have enabled customers to switch from one service provider to another with relative ease and efficiency. Such customer-friendly regulations are likely to evolve further. This makes it crucial for businesses to provide quality products and services to customers to retain them at all times.

End note
Remember, without customers there can be no business. And, if you don’t give customer the service levels they desire, they won't come to you again and at the same time, they will persuade others not to come to you too!

Excellent customer service is not just about talking about it; it’s about actually delivering true Customer Delight at all levels.

Customer service is a revolutionary change for Life Insurance Companies

Customer service has undergone a revolutionary change over the last few years. In the past, customer service was in the form of a toll-free number or a small kiosk at the end of a store. All you needed were limited resources to answer customer queries. Today, customer service can make all the difference between an industry leader and its peers. With multiple communication platforms now available, customer service has become an important management function. For instance, with the increasing popularity of social media, it may take just a few ‘messages’ or ‘tweets’ of customer dissatisfaction to put a dent on your company’s reputation and business.

Also, with easy availability of information, modern customers are better informed. Comparing life insurance and  various products and prices has become easy. Moreover, improving financial literacy, greater competition and wider product diversity has further added to the customers’ awareness even in the financial domain which so far was considered technical and complex. With increased awareness, customers have started expecting more and providing good customer service has become a challenge!

Life insurance - Best way to promote our business

Taking a life insurance responsibly can help us live the life we want to and protect our family after we are not there. Without life insurance many people would be left destitute in the event of an unexpected disaster. Besides providing for financial security in the case of one's untimely death, it can be used to accumulate a kitty for the old age, systematically build assets for funding one’s child's education and also for saving on taxes.
Let us look at the roles of life insurance plays in our life –

Life insurance as a “risk cover”

First and foremost, the primary task of life insurance is to ensure protection against losses that we are not prepared for, to help outlast life’s unpredictable losses. Designed to safeguard against losses suffered on account of any unforeseen event, insurance provides us with that unique sense of security that no other form of investment provides. By buying life insurance, we buy peace of mind and are prepared to face any financial demand that would hit the family in case of an untimely demise.
To provide such protection, insurance firms collect contributions from many people who face the same risk. A loss claim is paid out of the total premium collected by the insurance companies, who act as trustees.
